Obtaining and Using the Mystic KEY

Once you are out of the Northwest Castle and have saved your game, you must trade Matoya her CRYSTAL for the HERB. She lives in a cave near Coneria, across the bridge and north aways. There is a dock up by her cave, and you can get to it by going under the North Bridge and docking in the bay. Then go north around the rivers and you will arrive at her cave. Go into it.

This is Matoya's house. Go into it, and you will find Matoya in the top center of the room. Talk to her, and she will give you the HERB for the CRYSTAL. Once you have exchanged, empty the treasure boxes on the left side of the room. You will find two HEALs and one PURE. Then you can leave.

Note: If you talked to a broom while inside, you received the message, "TCELES B HSUP". ?sdrawkcab daer uoy naC If you can, then it says, "Push B Select." Go outside the cave and do this, and it will give you the map screen, with a cross showing where you are at.

Once you are done at Matoya's Cave, get back to ElfLand. Go into the Castle of Elf and talk to the Prince's aide. He will say that the HERB will do the trick, and that the Prince is already waking. Talk to the Prince, and he will give you the Mystic KEY.

When you have the KEY, you can open any locked room that you could not open before. You will probably want to empty all of them, because there are many treasures inside of them. But where are all of the locked rooms? Here is a list of all of the places with rooms, and how many rooms that they have:

Marsh Cave: 4 rooms

Castle Coneria: 2 rooms

Northwest Castle: 1 room

Castle of Elf: 1 room

Dwarf Cave: 1 room

Temple of Fiends: 2 rooms

You will find many important weapons, armor, and items in these rooms, plus some gold. Here is a list of each item and what I suggest that you do with them:

Sabre: A weapon found in Castle Coneria. It is pretty equivalent to the scimitar, but has higher D and lower H%, and you could already have bought it at ElfLand. If you want to equip it on your thief, go right ahead, but I suggest you sell it.

Silver Knife: A weapon found in the Dwarf Cave and Castle Coneria. It is also pretty equivalent to the scimitar, but its primary purpose should be for upgrading the black mage's large dagger. If you don't have a black mage and want to try it on a thief, you can go right ahead. Otherwise, sell it.

Silver Hammer: A weapon found in the Castle of Elf. Practically its only use is to upgrade the white mage's iron hammer. If you don't have a white mage, then you should probably sell it.

Rune Sword: A weapon found in the Temple of Fiends. It is a very good upgrade for your thief from the scimitar. At 18/15, it is better than anything else he has gotten so far. If any of your fighters or red mages do not have a silver sword yet, it serves as a temporary upgraded. Plus, if you end up selling it, it will give you a great amount of gold.

Were Sword: A weapon found in the Temple of Fiends. Practically its only use is to upgrade a fighter or red mage who does not have a silver sword yet. It would be much more useful if the thief could use it. However, it also provides a lot of gold when sold.

Dragon Sword: A weapon found in the Dwarf Cave. Its best use is to upgrade the thief from the Rune Sword. At 19/15, it is the best weapon that he can use so far. It also serves as a temporary upgrade for anyone who does not have a silver sword yet, and provides a lot of gold when sold.

Falchon: A weapon found in the Northwest Castle. About the only thing that I do with it is give it to a thief in a party where I have three thiefs or more. It is better than the scimitar and sabre, but not as good as the Rune Sword or Dragon Sword. Otherwise, I usually sell it.

Power Staff: A weapon found in the Northwest Castle. The people who can use it already have much better weapons by the time you get it, and it doesn't have any special things that it does when used as an item. But it is worth 12345 G.

Silver Bracelet: A piece of armor that is found in the Marsh Cave. Anybody can use it, and it serves as a pretty good upgrade for almost anybody. I will often give one to everybody in my party, no matter what class they are.

Silver Armor: A piece of armor found in the Dwarf Cave. It works very well on fighters and red mages, who happen to be the only ones who can use it, and it is also worth a lot of gold.

Wooden Helmet: A piece of armor found in the Dwarf Cave. You should already have it equipped on your fighter by now, but if you don't, equip it now.

Iron Helmet: A piece of armor found in the Dwarf Cave. It is better than the Wooden Helmet, and you should upgrade from the Wooden one immediately.

Iron Armor: A suit of armor found in Castle Coneria. Your fighters should already have it, but equip it if any don't. You will probably end up selling it, and it is worth 800 G.

Copper Gauntlet: A piece of armor found in the Castle of Elf. It is another one that can only be worn by the fighter at this time. It takes the place of the gloves (duh, since it will be on the arm), and it does provide more A for the person you equip it on, but it does consume more E%. You make the choice as to which is more important.

TNT: An item that is found in Castle Coneria. If you get nothing else from the Mystic KEY, make sure you get this. You have to have it in order to give it to Nerrick in the Dwarf Cave, who will in turn make a canal to the outer world for you.

Note: While you are in the Dwarf Cave, you might talk to the blacksmith.

You will not be able to get the ADAMANT for quite some time.

Once you get all of these items, you should give the TNT to Nerrick in the Dwarf Cave, and then go through the canal and almost due west to Melmond.

Go on to Melmond
